Story by A local gang member is under police guard at the hospital after shooting at his girlfriend in Weslaco and then leading police on a high-speed chase across the Upper Valley. Officers initially responded to a report of a gunshot at the Primrose Village Apartments Tuesday morning – an incident that put the nearby IDEA Academy on East Sugarcane Drive on lockdown. Police say the suspect was threatening his girlfriend when the gun went off. He fled, law enforcement chased him west into Penitas where he was stopped by DPS troopers.
